Lyric Office is our home - Come Say G'day
This project started as a dark, compartmentalised apartment with little connection to light, air or the outside. We stripped it right back, opening the spaces and returning it to a warm, welcoming shell that better suited the way we wanted to live.
Being our own clients gave us the freedom to explore ideas as we went. Some details were carefully planned, others evolved during construction. A few decisions may have tested the patience of the Strata committee along the way, but thankfully everybody is still on speaking terms.
The build became a family affair. My father had just retired from a lifetime in construction and was more than happy to swap retirement for one last project with his son. Friends dropped in to lend a hand too. Dan came over for a coffee one morning and somehow became part of the build team.
Beyond creating a home, the project became a testing ground for ideas around natural ventilation, openings, colour and materiality. We experimented with tiles, textures and unexpected combinations, allowing the spaces to develop their own character over time.
The result is a home that feels light, generous and distinctly personal. A project born from hard work, plenty of curiosity and a lot of good memories.
