Additions and Alterations

With George's arrival to the world imminent, the need for a family space was required.

The Hudson home’s heritage was retained, preserving the context of Mayfield West, with the extension added to the rear. The junction between old and new is marked by a bridge and a large steel hood, allowing the existing roof and gutter line to remain while creating high ceilings for ventilation and passive cooling. Facing north, the extension’s wings filter sunlight, providing diffused light and controlled solar gain year-round. An overhanging parapet shades the glazing in summer and allows winter sun to warm the polished slab, releasing heat through the day. Spaces were curated for the everyday, the everynight, and the in-between. It was important to our clients that inside and outside can merge as will their daily activites - some very small details achieves this matched with our bigger project moves.

A blending of old and new, inside and outside for a growing family. More importantly, its a space for George to play, learn and enjoy his time with his parents.
